I started from the beginning to write a patriotic march for the fourth of July holiday. I tried to capture that spirit in all the themes and in the break section the music depicts the rise and bursting of star clustered fireworks followed by several loud arial bombs. The first strain bass arrangement, I must admit, was based loosely on a section of Sousa’s Crusader march that I liked very much.
